Scottish Water To Carry Out Improvement Works

Scottish Water is to carry out improvement works to water mains in Johnstone and Linwood.

The work is scheduled to commence on 17 March and last for approximately nine weeks and will be overseen by contractors George Leslie Ltd.

The improvement work will involve the installation of a plastic lining inside the water mains and sections of the plastic lining will be installed by spraying a plastic membrane inside the pipes after the mains have been cleaned. It will be undertaken on 800 metres of existing cast-iron water mains in the area. The roads affected include:

• Barrochan Road (B789) in Johnstone – near the roundabout at its junction with Bridge of Weir Road.


• Cochranemill Road in Johnstone – from its junction with Millikenpark Road to its junction with Kilbarchan Road.

• Darluith Road in Linwood – from its junction with Barrochan Road to its first junction with Gilmartin Road.

Temporary traffic measures will be enforced during each stage of the work and is expected to be in place for around three to five weeks. Elsewhere, a section of the south-bound carriageway on the B789 Barrochan Road will be closed to facilitate the mains re-lining work, while a small section of Gilmartin Road will also be closed for five days.

The work is part of an overall project within the Renfrewshire area, and Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's Regional Communities Team Manager, said: "We are very pleased to be able to start work on this final piece of investment as part of the overall project.

"We will do everything possible to minimise any disruption to customers and road-users in the area and thank them in advance for their patience and understanding. The benefits of completing this piece of work will far out-weigh any short-term inconvenience."
