Port Dundas Regeneration To Be Explored

The public has been asked to help shape the future regeneration of Port Dundas in Glasgow as part of a three-day event.

The event, the Port Dundas Planning Charrette, will be held in the city this week and will allow local residents and businesses, council officers, developers and landowners to share their views on the area's regeneration.

Issues discussed at the event will include new activity and development on vacant land, including the large site of the former Diageo distillery. Also under consideration will be the potential to complement investments in the new Paddlesports Centre under construction in Pinkston Basin, the growth of the cultural industries in the city's North Quarter, as well as the needs of residents and businesses in Port Dundas.


The event is being run by Glasgow City Council, Scottish Canals and the Scottish Government.

Councillor Liz Cameron, Executive Member for Jobs and the Economy at Glasgow City Council, said: "Port Dundas is part of a wider area that will undergo tremendous change over the next couple of decades, but this charette will focus specifically on its unique qualities and future potential. I urge everyone with an interest in the development of Port Dundas to take part in the event."

Steve Dunlop, Chief Executive of Scottish Canals, added: "Scottish Canals is committed to using the waterways innovatively, helping to build stronger communities along their banks that stimulate economic growth and create a brighter future for the people of Scotland.

"This design workshop will enable the local community to help shape the next stage in the transformation of Port Dundas; generating ideas that will bring vibrancy, jobs and economic prosperity to the area. I'd encourage anyone with an interest in helping to create something truly special in the area to come along."

The event will be held at The Whisky Bond on Dawson Road and will start on Wednesday 12 March at 9.30am. Community design sessions will be held on the 12 and 13 March at 6pm, with a final presentation of ideas being held on the 14 March at 6pm. The public are encouraged to drop into The Whisky Bond at any time from 9.30am - 7.30pm on any of the three days to get involved.
