New Community Cinema To Open

A new community cinema is to open in Dumbarton following a successful refurbishment project.

The Concord Community Cinema, which has been made possible due to funding from West Dunbartonshire Council, will hold its first screening for residents this weekend.

The high-quality community cinema, which comes complete with surround sound, was created after the local authority – West Dunbartonshire Council – awarded the project £18,610 from the Dumbarton Town Centre Common Good Fund.

The initiative is a community-led initiative by the Concord User Group, in conjunction with Dumbarton Cine, Video and Digital Club and Alternatives Dumbarton, to create a social hub for the town.

In addition to the screening room, a café has also been launched which will serve well-known cinema foods, like popcorn, hot dogs and sweets, before and after film screenings.

Commenting on the project, Councillor David McBride, Convener of Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "The community cinema is a fantastic idea and will be a real asset to Dumbarton, encouraging residents and families into our town centre.

"We were delighted to support this project and I would encourage people to use the cinema and ensure its future success."

Lawrence O'Neill, Vice-Convener of Regeneration and Economic Development, added: "This project is a great way of bringing something new to Dumbarton and making the town more vibrant."
