Kier To Deliver New Highland School

Kier Construction has been appointed to deliver a new school in the Fort William area.

Appointed by The Highland Council, the £14.6m project will involve the demolition of the existing Caol Primary School and Caol Community Centre building and see them replaced with two new buildings.

The first building will be a joint campus that will house an eight-classroom school. These will replace Caol Primary School, while a further six-classroom school will combine the existing Fort William and Lochyside Roman Catholic Primary Schools.

Both schools will also have nursery classrooms and an internal street to link the facilities together.

For the second building, it is proposed that it will consist of a new community centre along with Caol library, Caol youth centre and Room 13 youth café.

In addition, Kier Construction will provide a new state-of-the-art energy centre to provide heating to the facilities, together with a new car park and multi-use games area.

Commenting on the plans, Councillor Alasdair Christie, Chairman of The Highland Council's Education, Children and Adult Committee, said: "This is another major investment as we strive to provide our communities with a learning environment fit for the 21st century. We look forward to working with Kier and the successful delivery of this important project at Caol."

Brian McQuade, Managing Director of Kier Construction's Scottish business, added: "We are delighted to be working together with the Highland Council on the new Caol Campus.

"This is a significant investment into the Fort William economy and we look forward to working with the local community and providing additional employment opportunities, including apprenticeships, for suppliers and subcontractors based here."
