The investment will see improvements made to more than 30 miles of water mains and will provide around 8,000 customers with clearer, fresher drinking water and a greater security of supply. The customers to benefit are in areas including Balfron, Blanefield, Carbeth, Croftamie, Drymen, Fintry, Killearn and Rowardennan.
Farrans will be responsible for carrying out the work on behalf of Scottish Water and will see 3.7 miles of water mains upgraded, as well as the installation of 7.5 miles of new mains and cleaning a total of 21 miles of mains.

Work on the scheme commenced in summer 2013 and is due to be completed by spring 2015. As part of the project, work to install a new trunk water main from Killearn to Fintry is expected to start in early May, with a completion date of spring 2015.
Road closures will be necessary for this phase of work.
A public event will be held for local residents and will provide the opportunity to spak to the project team and to ask any questions they may have.
The first event will be held on Tuesday 15 April 15 from 4pm to 7pm at Killearn Village Hall.
The second will be held on Wednesday 16 April from 4pm to 7pm at Menzies Hall, Fintry.
Lorna Gilchrist, Scottish Water's Project Manager, said; "Much of our work in this project in various parts of Stirlingshire involves the replacement of ageing pipes with modern polyethylene water mains which will provide clear, fresher drinking water and these new pipes will also be less susceptible to bursts which will mean greater security of supply and less risk of disruption to normal supplies.
"We are sure that customers will appreciate that any short-term inconvenience will be far out-weighed by the long-term benefits Scottish water's investment will deliver."
