A82 Pulpit Rock Work Continues

Construction work is to continue on the A82 Pulpit Rock Improvement Scheme, Transport Scotland has said.

The work will include a number of overnight road closures. These have been scheduled for 28 April to 4 May, and 10 May to 16 May. As a result, the road will be closed at Pulpit Rock, south of Ardlui, from 10pm on the above nights, and will reopen each day at 6am.

Diversion routes for through traffic are:

• Northbound via the A83 at Tarbet, A819 and A85

• Southbound via the A85 at Tyndrum, A819 and A83.

McLaughlin and Harvey, the contractor for the ambitious project, is planning to deliver and install a number of steel box girders at the site. Each one weighs up to 50 tonnes and the lifting operations – which involve two large cranes – will rely on favourable weather conditions on the scheduled nights.

Dominic Murphy, Transport Scotland Project Manager, explained: "The contractor is planning to undertake a significant and challenging activity which relies on favourable weather conditions. As such, weather forecasts will be monitored in the days leading up to the scheduled closures to ensure the work can proceed as planned.

"We would like to thank the local community and road users for their continued patience during these works."
