The work is part of a planned investment the utility provider is due to undertake to improve the natural environment of the river.
It will involve contractors ESG carrying out detailed surveys of ground conditions at a number of locations as part of the £250m investment. The project will improve water quality and the natural environment of the River Clyde and its tributaries, allow the area to grow and develop, and to tackle sewer flooding, as well as deal with the effects of increased rainfall and climate change.
Scottish Water has said the site investigation work will include the use of a rig on a barge. This will take samples of rock and subsoil from the bed of the River Clyde, to the south of South Street and north of the Shieldhall waste water treatment works.

The barge will launch from King George Dock, where it is currently moored.
Following this stage, the information gathered will help to create a profile of the depth of the river bed and the geological conditions around Glasgow. In addition, a small boat will use radar to survey parts of the River Clyde in order to identify any obstructions, while further investigations will take place on land near the north bank of the River Clyde. This work will involve the drilling of boreholes on land at various locations near Partick Pumping Station, Clydeside Expressway, Castlebank Street, South Street and Clydeholm Road. It will establish ground conditions and locate services in these areas.
It is expected the work will be completed by the end of May or early June.
Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's Regional Communities Team Manager, said: "We will do everything possible to minimise any inconvenience to residents, road-users and businesses in the area.
"Our work will require some road traffic management and work in verges adjacent to residential areas. We will engage with customers in advance of the work.
"Scottish Water's planned investment in the area will deliver major environmental benefits for years to come and details of this work will be made available when we are about to start the project. This investigative work we are starting now is a key part of our preparations for the project."
