Kirriemuir Regeneration Plans To Go On Display

Designs featuring the regeneration of The Square, Kirriemuir, are to go on display tomorrow (10 May) between noon and 4pm, Angus Council has said.

The plans will be available for the local community to view at a pop-up stand at The Square.

The rejuvenation of the space in the heart of the town centre is just one of the projects being delivered through the £1.1m Kirriemuir CARS initiative. The plans involve transforming The Square into a key area of the town and revamping the site with new paving and street furniture, as well as new seating, cycle stands and litter bins.

The designs are based on a timeline inset in granite into the paving, featuring text from JM Barrie which curves around the space, starting from the Peter Pan statue, while curved timber and stainless steel seating is proposed around the timeline and feature granite squares would carry engravings highlighting Kirriemuir's cultural past and present.

Community Councillor Cathy Stephenson, who is a member of the CARS steering group, said: "A revamped Square will be such an exciting development for the town centre. I hope residents and local businesses will come along and have a look at the plans in The Square – it's a great chance to compare what we've got now with what we could have in the future.

"The designs bring our local identity into the very fabric of The Square and we're really keen to hear what people think about them. These are proposals – nothing has been decided, so this is a genuine opportunity for local people to influence what our Square will look like in the future. We've extended the closing date for the design consultation to 23 May, to gather as many views as possible about this important development."
