The South Montrose regeneration programme has been boosted by the news that an international company is to expand its business operations in the area.
Certex UK, a supplier of lifting equipment and steel wire rope, has said it is to move into a new 36,000 sq ft production and warehousing facility.
Angus Council has been working with the private sector to regenerate the area of South Montrose. The news from Certex follows the announcement that GlaxoSmithKline has invested £25m in its Cobden Street operations in the town, creating 25 new jobs.
Montrose Port Authority has also invested heavily and is currently carrying out a 170-metre redevelopment of part of the north quay. The £6m will boost facilities at the port and help to attract further traffic.
Commenting on the news, Angus Council's Development and Enterprise Convener Mairi Evans said: "I am delighted that Certex UK is expanding its operations in Montrose. This is the latest vote of confidence from the private sector in South Montrose and reflects the work that has been undertaken by the council and its partners to regenerate this area.
"Our vision is to attract investment, create new commercial opportunities and jobs to support and sustain the Montrose and wider Angus economy, and this is already coming to fruition."
Kevin Smith, Managing Director of Certex, added: "The offshore industry is a complex and ever-changing environment and we are making this key investment as a result of asking our customers what they want from us.
"We believe Montrose is the ideal location to expand our services and we are delighted to be part of the regeneration of the South Montrose area. Growth prospects for our business are very good and our investment will see us create up to 35 new jobs in Montrose over the next two years."
