Site Agreed For New High School

An agreement has been reached on a site for the new Our Lady and St Patrick's High School in West Dunbartonshire.

The £22.5m school will be located on the site of former high flats in Bellsmyre.

In addition to the school, the development will also include two sports pitches and a cross country running track, and facilities will also be available for use by the community in the evenings and at weekends.

The three-storey school will include two gyms, a fitness room, a three-court games hall with retractable seating and a first-floor viewing gallery. Outdoor facilities include two full-size 3G football pitches, one of which would have floodlighting, three external sports courts and a six-land 80m sprint track.

Councillor Michelle McGinty, Education Convener, said: "Finding a new site for the new OLSP has been a lengthy process but we now have the right decision for our young people.

"This proposal keeps OLSP in Dumbarton which I know many parents wanted. The designs for the new school look fantastic and will enhance the curriculum and education provided, which I'm sure will be welcomed by both pupils and parents."

Councillor John Mooney, Depute Convener of Education, added: "This decision will mean we can finally move forward with our ambition to provide the best possible facilities in which to educate our young people.

"When the new Our Lady and St Patrick's is constructed it will also complete the full regeneration of West Dunbartonshire Council's mainstream secondary school estate within a seven year period."
