£2m Upgrade For Netherton School

A £2m project to transform Netherton Primary School in North Lanarkshire is due to commence shortly.

The scheme will see the current school building extended to create four new classrooms, a new administration wing that will contain the school office, meeting room, medical room and an additional multi-use teaching area. Elsewhere, a new dining area with kitchen area, toilets and extra storage space will also be built. A new fire safety sprinkler system is being installed and solar panels fitted to the roof to generate electricity and reduce the school's carbon footprint.


As part of the refurbishment, two existing classroom huts are to be demolished, with pupils and staff all being under one roof when the upgrade is complete. It is anticipated that work will be completed by early summer 2015.

Jim Logue, Convener of Learning and Leisure, said: "This refurbishment will give the school greater teaching capacity and will greatly improve facilities for pupils, teachers and visitors.

"Netherton is a fantastic school with a great reputation in the local community. It is vital they have a school building which will allow staff to continue providing high quality education for local youngsters. Once completed, the school will have a much brighter, better and more colourful teaching environment."
