Views Sought On Future Development Of West Lothian

West Lothian Council is looking to hear from local residents regarding the future development of the area.

Later this month, an eight-week consultation will commence that will look at the future use of land and resources in West Lothian. The consultation follows the approval of the Main Issues Report (MIR) for the West Lothian Local Development Plan by Council Executives.

The MIR will continue to work on the council's existing strategy of delivering economic growth and supporting appropriate housing development in a number of development areas around Armadale, East Calder, West Calder, Winchburgh and Broxburn. Other strategic sites, such as Heartlands in Whitburn, have also been highlighted.

Cathy Muldoon, Depute Council Leader, said: "We would like to encourage anyone with an interest in how their local area develops to give us their views on the Main Issues Report.

"Our consultation seeks views on a number of key issues involving future development such as: location and scale of housing development; economic growth; community regeneration; infrastructure requirements and delivery; approach to mineral extraction and waste management.

"Among the key areas for consultation include: proposals to change the use of sites in Livingston; the requirements for significant investment in infrastructure, particularly education, due to increasing house numbers; and whether the 'area of restraint' in Linlithgow should be relaxed to allow appropriate new investment for the town to come forward."

Further details on when the events will be held will be published later this month.
