Grant For Levern Works Project Secured

Funding of almost £740,000 has been awarded to a regeneration project in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire.

The funds have been made available under the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

The grant has been awarded to the Levern Works Project, which the local authority has said will help "bring economic development, private sector investment and environmental improvements to the north part of the town."

It will also continue to build on regeneration work that has already been carried out at the site in preparation for private investment.

The Levern Works Project consists of five separate developments:

• More business units for Crossmill Business Park

• Site clearance and preparation of the Nestle site for future private sector developments

• Extension of the Levern Water footway and cycle path

• Creating green space and environmental improvements to the site

• Developing a landscaped gateway to the Glasgow Road site to complements the already established Waterworks project.

Councillor Tony Buchanan, Convener for Infrastructure and Sustainable Growth, commented: "I'm delighted that we have been able to access these national funds for this project that will revitalise north Barrhead. Not only will this help transform neighbourhoods and deliver real benefits to local communities, it will also create new jobs and support existing ones.

"The Levern Works Project is a very exciting one for the town – it's bringing derelict sites back into use and building a thriving space for businesses. It's delivering real physical regeneration, just as council-led regeneration has done to the tune of £100 million in recent years."
