New Homes Complete In Dumfries

Construction work has been completed on 69 new homes in Dumfries.

The properties, which are being made available for rent, have been delivered as part of the National Housing Trust (NHT) initiative. They were funded by Dumfries and Galloway Council and Robertson Homes.

The development comprises of semi-detached and three-bedroom terraced homes, plus 15 two-bedroom flats.

Visiting the site in Marchfield, Dumfries, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "As this £9 million development demonstrates, Robertson Homes and Dumfries and Galloway Council have embraced the NHT model as one that can help ease housing pressures locally.

"The trailblazing NHT initiative is the first guarantee-based model for housing in the UK. It has delivered dozens of new homes in Dumfries for rent at below market rates."

Councillor Craig Peacock, Chairman of Dumfries and Galloway Council's Housing Sub Committee, added: "It is encouraging to see that our participation in the initiative is delivering comfortable and affordable housing to local people. Making new homes available to rent at below market value helps to ensure that we protect potentially vulnerable people in our region against ever-changing housing costs.

"The initiative will help us meet the demand for affordable local housing which ensures that we continue to grow our local economy by encouraging people to live, work and spend in Dumfries and Galloway."
