Financial Close Reached On Community Hub

East Dunbartonshire Council has confirmed financial close has been reached for a new Community Hub in Lennoxtown.

The deal, between the local authority, development partner hub West Scotland and contractor Morgan Sindall, will now allow work on the £5.2m project to go ahead.

In December 2014, demolition works to buildings on the site of Main Street was completed. Construction will now commence on site this month, with a scheduled completion date of January 2016.

When completed, the facility will contain a public library, community spaces, offices, NHS facilities and council services. Constructed over three levels, the lower ground floor will contain employee facilities with level access to the parking area to the rear of the building. A main entrance onto Main Street will be available on the ground floor, where the front desk, library and office will be located. The first floor will contain office space, meeting rooms and health care use, such as GP surgeries.


Welcoming the announcement, Council Leader Rhondda Geekie, said: "The development of the new facility will see major investment by the Council within Lennoxtown and is a key element of our commitment to supporting development within the area.

"Community Hubs are an important element of the Council's long term vision for effective, efficient, customer focussed services in East Dunbartonshire.

"Bringing together a wide range of council services under one roof in an exciting and innovative way will help us deliver services more efficiently to our residents and improve their experience of dealing with the Council."

Debbie McNamara, Chief Executive at hub West Scotland added: "We are delighted to be working with East Dunbartonshire Council on another exciting project, which will deliver significant improvements in the facilities available to the Lennoxtown community.

"This will be our fourth project with the Council to commence construction and we look forward to delivering community benefits to local residents over the next 12 months."
