Investigation Works Underway For Fraserburgh Scheme

Survey work and public consultation for a heritage and local conservation scheme in an Aberdeenshire town is now underway.

The Fraserburgh 2021 Townscape Heritage and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme plans to invest £5 million of funding into the town.

Funding will come from a number of different sources including Historic Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council and property owners.

Heritage Lottery Fund is also to provide funding, however this has not yet been secured.

Fraserburgh 2021 will focus on restoring and enhancing the town's built heritage, making its centre a 'more vibrant and attractive' place for residents and local businesses.

A number of other regeneration projects will also be taking place in Fraserburgh over the next five years as part of the project.

The former police station will be restored, along with returning other derelict or vacant historic buildings back into active use.

A programme of development work for the scheme is already taking place in the town.

Project consultants Gray and Marshall Associates are carrying out condition survey work to buildings in the town centre, including properties on Frithside Street and High Street, along with the former John Trail building.

There will also be a small grants scheme for the restoration of architectural detail or conservation of historic buildings for home owners and retailers.

A public engagement session will take place on 11 July to find out more information about Fraserburgh 2021.

Councillor David Aitchison said: "It’s exciting to see the Fraserburgh 2021 scheme moving forward now, and I hope that the local community take advantage of upcoming public consultations as an opportunity to have their say over the town’s future.

"The scheme will ensure that Fraserburgh’s historic environment is preserved and reinvigorated for future generations and I am proud that we have got to the second round of the application process."
