Minister Mackay was driven in an HGV along the over ten mile section of the road between Tarbet and Inverarnan which is to be upgraded.
Design work for the scheme is ongoing and it is hoped that a preferred route will be identified and public exhibitions held during September.

The Minister began his journey in Tyndrum which took him through the recently completed Crianlarich Bypass and the Pulpit Rock improvement scheme, which removed the traffic lights from the location.
Mr Mackay said: "The Scottish Government is committed to significant improvement programmes for this vital route and is determined to deliver on them for communities along its length, with around £57 million committed since 2007."
