Council To Host Drop-In Session For Public Realm Project

Construction News Image
East Dunbartonshire Council is to host a drop-in session for the public to learn more about a public realm project in Kirkintilloch.

Final details are yet to be agreed for the Cowgate project, following a period of consultation with residents, visitors, community groups, businesses, charities and stakeholders.

A range of improvements are to be delivered around the town centre including at Barleybank, West High Street, Townhead and Broadcroft.

An Equality Design Forum has been set up to influence areas such as kerbing and pavements, crossing points, gateways and signage, parking, public transport, trees, bollards and more.

Works are anticipated to begin in early 2016, focusing initially around the canal bridge/St Mary's area.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "Now that plans have been finalised for Cowgate we can show people exactly what is going to be taking place and where – as well as timescales and possible implications as work is carried out.

"There will be some short-term pain for businesses, but this will be more than balanced out by the long-term gain as we make the innovative plans for the town centre a reality."

The drop-in sessions will take place on:

• Monday 2 November, 10am – 5pm

• Wednesday 4 November, noon – 7pm

• Saturday 7 November, 10am – 5pm

• Tuesday 10 November, noon – 7pm

• Friday 13 November, 10am – 5pm.

The exhibitions are to take place in Unit 7 (formerly Going Places) at the Cowgate/Regent Centre.
