West Dunbartonshire Council has opened a new housing development in Dumbarton, it has been announced.

A total of 37 new build Council homes were given a Ministerial seal of approval as they were revealed today, 26 October.

The £4m Hillstreet Square project, which received £1.9m funding from the Scottish Government, has transformed the area of Brucehill and took 11 months to develop.

It is the first time in 25 years the council has designed and procured a new-build housing project in-house.

The properties, built by CCG (Scotland), are of a 'silver standard', meaning they are more energy efficient and release less carbon dioxide than the average home.

The development comprises of 16 one-bedroom flats, six four-bedroom houses, six three-bedroom houses, six two-bedroom houses, two two-bedroom wheelchair bungalows and one four-bedroom wheelchair bungalow.

A community garden has been created at the centre of the development in consultation with the community and pupils from Brucehill Early Education and Childcare Centre.Housing Minister.

Margaret Burgess said: "This project, backed by more than £1.8 million from the Scottish Government, represents the benefits of effective and committed long-term partnership working involving the community.

"The Scottish Government has worked hard with West Dunbartonshire Council to deliver these 37 new properties for social rent. They are not only good for new tenants but for Dumbarton's Brucehill area. Good quality, easy to heat, affordable homes are about quality of life and the difference this makes to the people, their families and the wider community."
