The work will prepare the site at Merkland Recreation Centre for the construction of the new St. Flannan's Primary School in Kirkintilloch.
The project aims to replace the two existing St. Agatha's and St. Flannan's Primary buildings.
Works include creating a footpath to link the school to the 3G pitch at the site, redirecting utilities, building an access road for contractors and putting up hoardings.
The school is being developed by hub West Scotland and is part of the council's Primary School Improvement Plan (PSIP) which delivered the new Lairdsland Primary School last year.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "It is great to be at the stage of beginning preparatory works for the building of a new school in Kirkintilloch and it was lovely to meet some of the children from St Flannan's and St Agatha's who are really enthusiastic about the prospect of a new school.
"Through this programme we are modernising the primary estate, delivering fit for purpose, state of the art primary schools with an enhanced learning environment which supports Curriculum for Excellence. PSIP is also helping to address the issue of increasing maintenance costs and reducing Council budgets."
A hub West Scotland spokesperson said: "We are proud to continue working with our partners East Dunbartonshire Council on a fourth school as part of the Primary School Improvement Programme.
"I am excited to see the early works progress in preparation for a contemporary new facility for the pupils of St Flannan's and St Agatha's."
