Designs Unveiled For Three Major Schemes On £1.13bn City Deal

Construction News Image
Designs have been unveiled for three major projects in East Renfrewshire as part of the £1.13 billion Glasgow City Region Deal.

The schemes will cost around £23.5 million and will be delivered over the next three years.

Plans include a £1m project to build a new section of Balgraystone Road, opposite St Luke's High School in Barrhead. Works are expected to start in Spring 2017 and completion is scheduled for that year.

In addition, Aurs Road will undergo a £7.5m redevelopment involving the realignment of two sections of road, as well as creating a new roundabout to provide access to a visitor centre and replacement of the road bridge.

Other schemes include a £11m project to build a new train station/bus interchange by 2019 and developing a £4m visitor centre on the north shore of Balgray Reservoir.

Cllr Tony Buchanan said: "It's really exciting to see the images that have been produced for these key projects. It really brings each of them to life and gives you an insight into what it's going to be like. The City Deal projects will play an important part in developing East Renfrewshire's local economy, as well as creating jobs and improving business opportunities.

"We are committed to delivering a better future for all of our residents and these projects will play a major part in helping us to achieve this goal. East Renfrewshire has already delivered the first City Deal project with the opening of Crossmill Business Centre earlier this year, and now we are moving forward with our plans for these other key developments."
