CNPA Approves Plans For 60 New Homes

Construction News Image
Approval has been granted for 60 new homes to be built in Cairngorms National Park.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) has given its backing to three separate planning applications for new housing in Grantown-on-Spey.

Seafield & Strathspey Estates is proposing to develop 43 plots, along with associated works, close to Grantown's Seafield Avenue, while the Highland Council plans to build 10 'affordable' homes on a nearby plot close to Beachan Court. The owners of Seafield Lodge Hotel are also planning to convert the building into six flats and one house.

The developments between Seafield Avenue and Beachan Court are located on areas designated for housing in the Local Development Plan. Both of these schemes were recommended by planning officers for approval.

In addition, the application by the Seafield Lodge Hotel's owners will result in two 'affordable' properties being created, with the loss of tourism accommodation estimated to not be "significantly detrimental" to Grantown.

Eleanor Mackintosh, the CNPA Planning Committee Convener, said: "After thorough consideration of all the issues concerned with these three applications before us today (21 October), I am happy to support them. They are appropriate in their nature and I obviously welcome the provision of new affordable homes in Grantown."
