Consultation To Be Held On Potential Development Site In Dundee

Construction News Image
A consultation is to be held over the future of a potential one-hectare development site in Dundee.

Maryfield House, a former nurses' residence when part of the Maryfield Hospital complex, has been declared surplus to requirements by NHS Tayside.

City planners have now requested councillors to hold a consultation on a blueprint for the location, encouraging development of a mixture of house types to the west of Mains Loan and east of Arklay Terrace.

According to a draft planning brief, the site contains a number of existing properties which could be demolished and redeveloped.

Developers will be encouraged to incorporate features of the existing built environment such as the stone wall to the west of the site and use the south facing slope to take advantage of natural light.

Preferred housing for the site includes a mix of types and sizes, such as detached and semi-detached, which will reflect the density of the surrounding dwellings.

The draft brief will be considered by councillors on Monday, 23 January.

Bill Campbell depute convener of the council's city development committee, said: "As part of the process of creating a planning brief for the site we want to listen to the views of local people who can see and live with the area on a daily basis.

"I am confident that the final planning brief will help to find a positive use for this high quality redevelopment opportunity that we would like to see worked up as soon as possible."
