Demolition Work To Begin On Bridgeton Redevelopment Scheme

Construction News Image
Demolition work is to begin as part of a redevelopment project in Bridgeton, Glasgow.

The former Church House building on Boden Street will be levelled as part of an industrial re-development by Clyde Gateway. The works are expected to last up to three weeks.

Alison Brown, Senior Project Manager (Development) at Clyde Gateway, said: "This demolition work is hugely significant as it will ultimately lead to new factory units in the heart of Bridgeton.

"The site was the subject of extensive public consultations last year and there was overwhelming support for our plans to clear the area around the old Church House.

"Our efforts to redevelop this particular location have been hindered by abnormal ground conditions caused by two historical coal seams located 35-50 metres beneath the surface.

"We have aspirations to spend more than £1 million to carry out consolidation and grouting works to the depth of the coal seams and are currently awaiting the outcome of a bid for £625,000 that we have made to the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Fund for 2017/18.

"The idea would then be to later design a scheme for modern industrial and manufacturing sheds and seek the support of the local community to take that to the planning stage."
