Edinburgh Technopole Science Park Expansion Plans Approved

Plans have been approved to extend a science park in Midlothian.

The Edinburgh Technopole facility at the Bush House Estate near Penicuik is to be expanded with three new offices/laboratory buildings on the site.

The application was approved subject to referral to Scottish Ministers and the signing of a legal agreement beforehand to secure developer contributions towards improvements in public transport, better walking and cycling routes, as well as improvements to strategic and local roads.


Transport Scotland will also consider the proposals' impact on the trunk road network, which prompted the referral to Scottish Government.

Overall, the scheme is expected to secure around 150 jobs.

Cllr Russell Imrie said: "Supporting economic development is a key priority within the council and among our community planning partners. Approving this application, subject to the stipulations outlined, will create jobs and cement Midlothian's reputation as a centre for excellence in life sciences and scientific research.

"We know there are companies which are keen to locate soon to Edinburgh Technopole, which makes this an urgent matter. To ensure these opportunities are not lost, the council is seeking to have a cross-party delegation meet with the relevant minister to seek a way forward as quickly as possible."
