Work To Start On £300,000 M8 Barrier Replacement Programme

Work is to start on a £300,000 M8 barrier replacement programme near Glasgow Airport.

The scheme at Junction 26 will get underway at 8pm on Sunday, 23 July.

Around 600 metres of barriers will be replaced as part of a £2.5 million upgrade programme over 12km of the motorway. Work has been programmed to run overnight, avoiding the busier Friday and Saturday night periods. The flow of vehicles will be monitored on the motorway, and traffic management will only be installed once levels have been identified as satisfactorily low.

Laura Gray, Scotland TranServ's Deputy Planned Maintenance Manager said: "We've worked alongside Glasgow Airport, Police Scotland and the local authorities to carefully schedule this project in order to reduce disruption to the travelling public.

"These barriers are at the end of their maintainable life and in need of replacement. In the spring, we completed the replacement of over 2 kilometres of barrier, which ran smoothly, finishing 3 weeks ahead of schedule."
