Scottish Borders Council Unveils Five-Year Local Housing Strategy

Scottish Borders Council has unveiled plans to build more than 340 homes per year over the next five years.

In its new five-year Local Housing Strategy, the council sets outs four key priorities to be achieved with its partners;

• The supply of housing to meet the need of communities

• Ensuring more people live in good quality, energy efficient homes


• Reducing the number of people affected by homelessness

• Increasing the number of people supported to live independently in their own homes

With an annual target of 348 new homes, including 128 affordable homes, to be built by 2022, Cllr Mark Rowley said the strategy "addresses a number of the most significant challenges facing the Council, its partners and our communities".

"The strategy has been developed in partnership with the local registered social landlords and meeting our targets will require ongoing support from a range of partners, including the Scottish Government, and private sector investment too," he said.
