A new £18 million Additional Support Needs School (ASN) is set to open next month in Grangemouth, Falkirk.

The new Carrongrange High School will be officially unveiled by Deputy First Minister John Swinney on Wednesday, 01 November.

Work on the building started in February 2016 and was completed in July 2017, with the first pupils admitted in August this year.

Located on the existing grounds of Moray Primary School, the development offers places for up to 190 secondary pupils and contains some of the most advanced design features and support equipment for ASN pupils.

Specialist facilities include a beauty therapy suite, a bike maintenance classroom, a teaching pool and hydrotherapy pool and fully equipped modern classrooms with Smart technology. Desks, sinks, hobs and screens are fully height adjustable.

In addition to a special 'training flat' that will be used to develop life skills with young people, the facility also contains many environmental features such as lighting sensors; under floor heating; high levels of insulation; a biomass boiler to provide heating throughout the school.

The project was delivered as part of the Scottish Government's £1.8 billion Schools for the Future programme.

Cllr Adanna McCue said: "Carrongrange is an excellent environment for pupils to learn and achieve their potential in all curricular lead activities and much more. On my first visit I was amazed at the building and facilities. It is a fantastic place of learning. I am sure all pupils and staff will get so much from this modern designed and technological facility."
