Construction News Image
Plans to redevelop Stornoway's waterfront have been shortlisted in the Scotland's FutureTowns Design Competition.

The Waterfront Walk scheme has been named among 12 other entries in the competition which aim to transform communities across Scotland.

Designed by Threesixty Architecture as part of the town's 'Masterplan', the Waterfront Walk project aims to create new connections throughout the town, making it more accessible to pedestrians and cyclists as well as providing positive opportunities for visitors, residents and businesses.

Proposals include using visual and surface links to create a clear and defined access routes from the town to the Waterfront Walk. Where the Waterfront Walk/Cycle Path intersects connections from the town, viewing platforms placed along the waterfront edge would create destinations and areas for activity. In addition, there is an opportunity to relocate Stornoway's existing art in more celebrated locations.

A public vote on the plan is being held during Scotland's Towns Week from today, 20 November to 26 November. The winner will be announced by Scotland's Towns Partnership on Friday, 01 December.

Cllr Donald Crichton said: "We are delighted that Stornoway has been shortlisted in this competition. This is a great platform from which to promote our positive vision for the development of the town, and we look forward to further development and implementation of the proposals in the Stornoway Masterplan."
