Work On £1.4m Building Refurb In Dumbarton Complete

Construction News Image
Work on a £1.4 million building refurbishment project in Dumbarton is now complete.

The B-listed Municipal Buildings in College Street has been revamped and is now home to around 80 Council staff, including elected members and the Legal/Audit teams as well as Licensing Enquiries.

The upgrade forms part of the local authority's overall £19m programme to relocate staff into modern, fit for purpose office space and reduce the amount of buildings used by the council.

The three-phase scheme got underway in 2016 and involved external improvements to the roof and the building's exterior fabric, creating new office space and meeting rooms as well as upgrading the Ceremony Room.

Cllr Iain McLaren said: "You only have to drive past the Municipal Buildings to see what a difference this work has made. We have received many comments from people who are delighted with how it looks and how it improves the look of the area. And the work carried out internally has also had a real impact.

"The Councillors and staff have a very welcoming environment in which to work and, more importantly, the members of the public who come here to carry out Council business or even to get married will be able to enjoy the improvements."

Cllr Diane Docherty added: "With the recent opening of Aurora House in Clydebank and the new Clydebank town centre office, Council services are being delivered in a more efficient and welcoming way to the people of Clydebank. The completion of work at the Municipal Buildings is the next big step towards transforming Dumbarton town centre."
