First Phase Of Strathpeffer Sewer Main Renewal Project Complete

Construction News Image
Work on the first phase of a sewer main renewal project in Strathpeffer is now complete.

The A834 road through the village has been reopened following the completion of the scheme.

Scottish Water said unforeseen challenges with other underground services and wintry weather conditions hampered progress on the project and required the road closure to be extended from its intended three week duration.

The current work is being carried out by Morrison Construction on behalf of alliance partner amey-Black & Veatch.

Further phases of planned work will now continue until the end of April. Some further excavation will take place due to the position of the sewer beneath the road. The final phase of the work will use a specialised re-lining technique within the existing sewer to avoid the need for more disruptive work in the village centre.

Scott Heath, Senior Project Manager, said: "We would like to apologise to residents and road users for the need to extend the closure of the A834 and thank them for their patience while this initial work has been under way.

"Our priority this week has been to reopen the road as soon as possible, so we agreed with Highland Council that we would temporarily reinstate the road surface until an improvement in the weather conditions allows us to complete permanent reinstatement to the required standard."
