Highlands Residents Invited To Submit Views Over Planned Water Investment

Construction News Image
Residents in Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston are being invited to submit their views over a planned water investment project in the region.

Scottish Water, working in partnership with delivery alliance partner Efficient Service Delivery (ESD), has drawn up plans to replace two existing Water Treatment Works in the area.

Proposals involve installing a water main to connect the two communities, as well as a new storage tank on high ground to the north of Fort Augustus. In addition, a water storage capacity would be created at Scottish Water’s existing site in Invermoriston.

Overall, the company said the scheme would provide an improved water supply for both communities, with greater resilience and capacity to support future growth. Key sections of the water network would be renewed in Fort Augustus, including a new water main crossing beneath the Caledonian Canal and the River Oich.

Residents and business with an interest in the project are now being invited to attend a drop-in session at Glenmoriston Millenium Hall from 4pm – 7pm on Tuesday, 01 May.

The exhibition will allow locals to discuss any questions, comments or concerns with members of Scottish Water's project team. A previous session was held on 15 March in Fort Augustus.

David Kitching of Scottish Water said: "Our proposals have been carefully developed to ensure that we can continue to provide high quality water to our customers in the Great Glen for many years to come.

"There are several elements of our investment but taken as a whole it will deliver a drinking water supply which is more reliable, resilient and sustainable for the long term. We are keen for local residents and businesses to understand the work we are proposing and for them to be able to contribute to the preparations we are making."

ESD Senior Project Manager, Charlie Bull, added: "The investment we are delivering will bring significant long-term benefit to Scottish Water customers in Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston, but we recognise that there will be some disruption associated with the construction process. We want to do what we can to keep any short-term inconvenience for residents, visitors and businesses to a minimum.

"I would encourage local residents who didn't manage to make it along to the previous event or who have further questions they would like to raise with us to come along to the drop-in session to understand our proposals, discuss the preparations we are making and provide us with their feedback."
