New Skate Park Opens In Cowdenbeath

Construction News Image
A new skate park has opened next to Central Park in Cowdenbeath, completing the area's £975,000 skate part strategy.

Cllr Linda Erskine, Convener of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee said: "In the last few years we've seen the strategy deliver new or upgraded skating facilities in Cardenden, Benarty, Kelty and Lochgelly with an overall investment of £975k in the new skate parks and multi-use games areas. I'm very pleased to be here today to mark the opening of the last, but by no means least, of these fantastic new skate facilities.

"The local community has been very involved in helping to shape the designs and we're particularly thankful to St Bride's Primary School and local youth groups together with the area's skateboard and BMX fraternity for their valuable input. Cowdenbeath's new skate park is set to be one of the best in Fife and everyone involved should be very proud of what they have achieved."

Convener of the Community and Housing Services Committee, Cllr Judy Hamilton, added: "This is a very impressive new skate park facility that has a lot to offer young people. Improving sport and physical activity opportunities is one of the ways the Council looks to tackle the health inequalities that Fife faces. This family of new skate parks in Central Fife are an example of how improving greenspaces in the local area means that we see many more youngsters being physically active for free.

"There's already a lot of positive feedback on the other new skate parks and I'm confident that Cowdenbeath's new skate park will only add to that positive response."

The skate park was funded by the Cowdenbeath Area Committee local community planning budget and Section 75 funding from the Leuchatsbeath development.
