CCG Continues Work On 178-Home Glasgow Development

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a new 178-home development in Glasgow.

CCG is creating the scheme, which is one of the city's largest 'affordable' housing developments, on behalf of Sanctuary Homes in Nitshill.

A total of 92 homes are being delivered for social rent, with 10 units being built as part of a pilot scheme to assess varying levels of energy performance delivered using CCG's offsite expertise across Silver, Gold, Platinum and Passivhaus Standards.

Working alongside MAST Architects as well as the Glasgow School of Art and Carbon Futures, the Pilot Scheme will include Post Occupancy Monitoring opportunities, allowing the 10 homes to be benchmarked in terms of running costs, resident comfort and environmental performance, as part of case study to inform future developments.

In addition, CCG are also giving community members a chance to learn important skills within construction by taking on 13 trade apprentices at the site, as part of its four-year apprenticeship programme.

Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Humza Yousaf, recently visited the site and met the local residents who are benefitting from their training opportunity.

"This area really needs that regeneration and Sanctuary is putting its money where its mouth is," he said.

"I'm impressed with the speed at which the houses have gone up and impressed with the quality as well. There are a large number of apprentices and I'm delighted to see so many from the local area. This development and the affordable housing options it offers will greatly benefit my constituents."

Peter Martin, Sanctuary's Group Director – development, said: "We are delighted to work with Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government to bring high-quality housing to Nitshill.

"Sanctuary projects have helped hundreds of young people get a foot on construction's career ladder. The progress made by Thomas, David and the others is fantastic and shows the hugely positive impact our investment can have on local housing and employment."

Calum Murray, CCG Director, added: "Working with partners such as Sanctuary allows us to continue to deliver job and training opportunities to young people and we are delighted to do this at Newfield Square. Job creation and training is just as important as the provision of new homes in creating a legacy for local communities.

"The pilot scheme for Newfield Square is also hugely important. Given the current focus on environmental performance across the industry, particularly with the Passivhaus Standard, the research will be essential to local authorities like Glasgow in order to understand how it could potentially be rolled out in the future."
