Construction work on a number of new council flats has begun at the site of Napier House Care Home in Glenrothes, Fife.
All 31 flats, for Very Sheltered Accommodation, will be brand new Council Housing and part of the investment Fife Council is making to the Programme, despite significant financial challenges.
Fife's ambitious Affordable Housing Programme is a partnership across Fife Council, the Fife Housing Association Alliance, Scottish Government and Private Developers. They are committed to building 3500 Affordable Homes by 2022 and this phase of the programme includes the site at Napier Road.
On site to see the development and meet with local Housing staff, Cllr Judy Hamilton, Convener, Community & Housing Services Committee said: "The Napier Road site is being delivered by Fife Council Building Services and is one of the in-house projects in our Affordable Housing Programme.
"The development at Napier Road is at the site of the Napier House Care Home – there will be a mix of one-and two-bedroomed flats designed for Very Sheltered Accommodation, and will form the Care Village along with the Care home, which has a cinema-room and a sensory garden for residents' use – and will be available to the new tenants."
Cllr Hamilton added: "The Affordable Housing Programme is working with our own Building Services as well as private sector developers to sustain construction jobs and apprenticeships in Fife. In these times, we are proud to remain committed to a skilled workforce for the future. It was good to be on site and meet with Housing and Building Services staff. I'm delighted to see the progress that has been made on this project and am looking forward to seeing the Glenrothes Care Village complete. I understand that tenants will be ready to move in during the summer of 2019.
"Our continued commitment to a programme of building Care-Villages demonstrates our strong partnership between the Council's Housing Services and the Health and Social Care Partnership, delivering very high quality services for our older and less-able citizens."
