Morrison Reuses Site Materials For 'Fruitful' Community Project

Construction News Image
Morrison Construction has donated reused site materials and labour to Winchburgh Community Growing Group to create planters for the West Lothian village.

Three concrete manhole rings are now colourful planters full of flowers, fruit bushes, herbs and vegetables for the Winchburgh community to enjoy.

The heavy pieces of pipe were transported to their new location and filled with four tonnes of topsoil by Morrison Construction.

Seasonal bulbs and paint were also supplied to the Winchburgh Community Growing Group who completed the project during a weekend barbecue. The group also planted fruit bushes, garlic, onions, chilli and potatoes.

Morrison Construction has worked in the West Lothian Council area before, successfully delivering the £32m West Calder High School earlier this year.

Morrison Construction Infrastructure Scotland Senior Agent, Gavin Macleay, said: "As a business we are committed to giving back to the communities we live and work in whenever we can. It was a pleasure to help this dedicated community group with this project and we know they will enjoy harvesting what is grown in the planters."

Co-Founder Winchburgh Community Growing Group, John West, said: "We would like to thank Morrison Construction for kindly donating these materials and their time to make this project possible.

"This is the fourth planter project our group has undertaken in Winchburgh. These planters not only beautify the village but make fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables accessible to the residents. It also builds on community spirit bringing neighbours out together and sharing the love of food."
