Border Road Closure During Flood Protection Works

Scottish Borders Council has announced that a section of Teviot Road will be closed from Thursday 25 October for up to a month to allow essential service diversion works associated with the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme to take place.

A temporary access route for vehicles will be created on Thursday morning for the public to access Teviot Medical Practice car park during the closure, with signage also in place.

Vehicle access to Mill Port will be restricted during the works, with local residents and businesses having been notified.


The council said: "We realise this closure will be an inconvenience but it is vital that it takes place as part of the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme's advanced works.

"We also appreciate that the service diversion works are taking place at short notice. However, a delay to another section of the project at a different location meant the Teviot Road works had to be brought forward.

"We would ask local residents and members of the public accessing the medical centre to follow the temporary signage during the works."

Hawick Flood Protection Scheme is being delivered to protect the town from a one in 75 year flood event and will protect around 900 properties affected by flooding once completed in 2022.

Alongside providing protection, it will also aim to provide cultural, heritage, educational, environmental, energy and health opportunities for the town, in partnership with the community and external organisations.
