Award-winning west of Scotland construction and haulage company, TSL Contractors Limited, has appointed Iain Lumsden as the firm's new Managing Director.
Iain joins TSL from Balfour Beatty's North Scotland business where he worked for nearly 25 years, latterly in the post of managing director.
Iain's appointment coincides with TSL's 40th year in business, a period during which the company has grown from a small family quarrying firm on the isle of Mull to a multi-location construction, civil engineering, building and road haulage business employing over 100 workers.
The company has won the influential Business Insider's Scottish Fastest Growing SME 300 award for the last two years in a row and this will be the first time in the company’s 40 year history that a non-family member has held the position of managing director.
Company Principal Andy Knight said: "We are very pleased that Iain will be taking such a crucial role as we consolidate our leading position within the west of Scotland's construction industry. He brings with him not only a wealth of experience and exciting new ideas but also a commitment to our core values of striving always for the highest standards for our clients, fostering a professional and motivated workforce and having a positive social, economic and environmental impact on our local communities."
Iain's career to date spans some 35 years working in construction, through which he has accumulated an extensive and diverse experience in building, civil engineering and private and social housing projects across both the public and private sectors. Born in St Andrews, he began his career as an apprentice quantity surveyor in 1983 and worked his way up through the ranks, holding various commercial and senior business management roles before being appointed managing director of Balfour Beatty's north of Scotland division in 2016. With a reputation within the industry for being extremely customer and quality orientated, Iain was instrumental in the company’s transition from operating in an extensive competitive tendering market to achieving significant success in negotiated works and frameworks. At the time of leaving, the company’s entire workload was based upon negotiated repeat business and collaborative working relationships.
Iain said: "I am delighted to be joining TSL and I am very excited about the prospect of working with Andy and the TSL team to realise their huge potential to be the contractor of choice in the west of Scotland. We have many shared values and a genuine desire to provide a high quality service that delivers best value for our customers. We are also strong believers in engaging with, and making a meaningful social contribution to, the communities in which we work. I simply can't wait to get started."
Iain will be moving from Speyside to the Oban area with his partner, Vanessa, to take up his new position with TSL early in the new year.
