SSE Sustainability Report Published

SSE has published its most comprehensive Sustainability Report, which outlines the ways in which people throughout SSE are driving sustainability to the heart of operations.

SSE said that a key tenant of this is their newly launched business goals which are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals – the global blueprint for a sustainable world.

SSE's 2030 goals are:

• Cut the carbon intensity of the electricity generated by 50%

• Treble renewable energy output

• Pave the way to help accommodate 10 million electric vehicles in Great Britain

• Champion Fair Tax and the real Living Wage

As a leading energy provider, SSE is seeking to be at the forefront of a surge of support for climate action, advocating for the adoption of a net zero target last year, with the Committee on Climate Change confirming the scientific and economic case in May.

It is now being enacted into legislation by the UK Government. This is a significant opportunity for both the country and the economy, and SSE is ready to play a big role in delivering it.

That said, the impact of a wholesale upheaval in the way in which we power our country and lead our lives must be sensitively considered.

Developing wind farms and building flexible electricity network infrastructure must deliver significant value for society too. A strong sustainability compass at the core of SSE will help ensure that.

Celebrating the launch of the report, Alistair Phillips-Davies, our Chief Executive, said if you want to know what SSE truly stands for, you should take a look at our 2019 Sustainability Report.
