Laurencekirk Junction Improvement Scheme Unveiled

Construction News Image
Transport Scotland has unveiled plans for an improvement scheme for the A90.A937 Laurencekirk Junction.

Following the publication of draft orders for the scheme last month, local communities and road users have a chance to see the plans at a public exhibition in Laurencekirk.

The plans include a new "full diamond" grade-separated junction layout which carries the realigned A937 over the A90 at the south junction and provides slip roads to and from the A90 dual carriageway for both northbound and southbound traffic.

The scheme also includes shared routes suitable for Non-Motorised Users (NMUs) such as pedestrians and cyclists, from Laurencekirk over the A90 on the A937, as well as parallel to the A90 southbound side to the B9120.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity Michael Matheson said: "We are continuing to progress the design work for the Laurencekirk Junction Improvement scheme, having let the public see and comment on the preferred option for the junction last summer.

"We were able to publish draft orders for the scheme last month – a major milestone in delivering this much-needed upgrade for the north east. Now the public has a chance to come along to view and comment on our plans.

"The new grade separated junction will improve safety and help reduce delays for all who cross or turn at the busy A90 junction to the south of the town. As part of our commitment to support active travel users, we will also provide shared routes to enhance accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the scheme.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to attend the exhibition today to see our proposals or view the material online and give us their views."
