Work on a new masterplan for the regeneration of Glenrothes town centre has been launched by Fife Council.
The plan, which aims to provide a creative and practical vision for the area, will be developed with input from the local community. Workshops are being held on 21 February 2020 at the Enterprise Hub, Glenrothes between 2pm and 7pm.
Architectural design and planning practice Halliday Fraser Munro has been commissioned to prepare the masterplan for Fife Council. Their design team are holding the workshops to explore ways to redevelop parts of the town centre, including the Kingdom House site, currently being demolished, and the site of the former Police Station. The workshops will involve a series of focused discussions, along with displays, and members of the design team will be on hand to answer questions.
Cllr Fiona Grant, Chair of the Glenrothes Area Committee, said: "The committee agreed to fund the development of this master plan in June last year. It will be a forward looking vision with proposals based on information gathered from a wide range of sources. As part of the information gathering process the team will establish what the 'market' appetite is to regenerate the town centre so that proposed new projects are based on realistic and feasible estimates.
"Over the last five years we have seen a number of significant improvements made in the town centre. This masterplan will build on the great work already completed or underway and ensure that we continue to make progress. As well as the vision, the new plan will provide details of potential projects and help steer local planning decisions, investment and Council priorities for improvements and changes over the next ten years."
She added: "We are inviting the local community including pupils from the local schools to join in the discussions. Online questionnaires will be available on www.facebook.com/ourglenrothes/ with more details on the 'OurGlenrothes' Facebook page."
