BEAR Scotland Begin A9 Drainage Improvement Works

Construction News Image
More than £200,000 worth of drainage improvement works on a section of the A9 is set to get underway, BEAR Scotland has announced.

The project, between Keir Roundabout and Dunblane Footbridge, will involve teams carrying out refurbishment works to the edge of carriageway filter drain on the northbound carriageway near Dunblane, creating a safer journey for motorists by improving the rate of removal of water from the carriageway.

The overnight drainage project is scheduled to begin today, Monday 14 June, and is expected to take up to five weeks to complete, with the improvements taking place between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night. No works are scheduled for Saturday or Sunday nights.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and motorists, a single lane closure will be in place on the A9 northbound carriageway during working hours. The traffic management will also require a single lane closure on Keir Roundabout with the northbound M9, B8033 (Dunblane), A9 (Bridge of Allan), and B824 (Doune) also reduced to one lane on the approach to Keir Roundabout. All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of the drainage improvement project to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in place to ensure all site personnel remain safe once the project gets underway.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North East Representative, said: "This latest £205,000 investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out filter drain refurbishment works on this section of the northbound A9 to ensure the network continues to operate at the highest standard.

"The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project. To help minimise delays as much as possible, we've planned the improvements to take place overnight, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

"We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these improvements on the A9. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."
