SSEN To Replace Electricity Infrastructure In Dundee

Construction News Image
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution have announced a £150,000 project to improve the electricity infrastructure in the Clepington Road area of Dundee.

SSEN teams will replace 1.3km of underground cable and carrying out upgrades at various substation sites in the area over a six-week period.

The project will result in a more robust and resilient network for customers in the area, with this installation of new equipment making the local infrastructure less susceptible to power cuts.

Teams will be working in consecutive stages along a route from Clepington Road, heading south down Hospital Street, east along Strathmore Avenue, crossing Strathmore Avenue on to Milton Street, south to Scott Court and then crossing Milton Street and terminating within SSEN's Milton Street Substation.

Ahead of works starting, SSEN has been hand-delivering project information to homes and businesses along the route, explaining that in order to ensure the safety of members of the public and its staff and contractors, it will be necessary to suspend some car parking and close off sections of the footpaths as work progresses along the route.

Partial road and lane closures will also be in place in areas where the teams are working, although SSEN has stressed residential and essential access will continue to be available throughout the project. These road closures, along with diversion routes, will be signposted in advance.

Speaking ahead of work starting on 23 August, John Thoms, SSEN's Project Manager, said: "We want to give our customers the best possible service all year round. The new cable we're installing will replace the existing one which is approaching the end of its scheduled working lifespan, and the work we're doing at the substations in Strathmore Avenue, Milton Street and Hospital Street will also help to reduce the potential for power cuts and keep the power flowing for the local community."
