Over 960 Affordable Homes Delivered Across Perth & Kinross

Perth & Kinross Council has delivered more than 960 new affordable homes over the five-year period 2016/17 – 2020/21 – averaging 193 affordable homes per year - exceeding its target of 150.

The council has committed to continue the scale and pace of its successful programme of delivering affordable housing over the next five years, under a new plan to be considered by Councillors.

The revised Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) 2022/23 - 2026/27 sets out the Council's investment priorities for affordable housing over the coming years.

The report to be considered by the Housing and Communities Committee on Wednesday 10th November sets out ambitious plans to increase the number of affordable homes delivered over the next five years.

The additional housing will be provided through new builds, replacing older homes, bringing empty homes back into use as housing, and re-modelling existing buildings for new housing.

The new homes will:

• All be built to the highest standards, with energy efficiency measures included to help meet local and national climate change targets.

• Include housing for people with particular needs, helping these tenants to live independently and happily in the community.

• Be built in areas of housing need, allowing people to access good quality housing of a type and in an area suitable for their current and future households needs.

Housing and Communities Convener, Councillor Bob Brawn said: "Good quality affordable homes have a hugely positive impact on the overall quality of life for the people who live in them. With demand for housing in Perth and Kinross continuing to rise, and the housing needs of our communities becoming increasingly complex, our commitment to providing a range of affordable housing options remains a key strategic priority.

"We have made great progress over the last five-years in Perth and Kinross, consistently delivering more new affordable homes than our 150 per year target. I am delighted that the Strategic Housing Investment Plan for the next five years remains ambitious.

"We remain committed to building more homes and overseeing a long-term programme of new affordable housing development to meet the needs of the people who live in Perth and Kinross. This will help us achieve the outcomes set out in our Local Housing Strategy and also support the Scottish Government's 'Housing to 2040' strategy."
