BEAR Scotland has delivered over £12.9m of resurfacing, safety improvements and maintenance schemes since October 2021, on behalf of Transport Scotland across many different routes and structures on the North East trunk road network.

Nineteen resurfacing projects have been undertaken which has included significant improvements on the A9 through Perth, the A90 between Perth and Dundee and across various sections of the A96. The investment allowed for repairs across the network, creating a smoother and safer journey for road users.

BEAR has also delivered bridge maintenance, refurbishments and investigations. This has seen works completed on the M90 Friarton Bridge, M90 Cocklaw Overbridge and the A90 Inverugie Bridge. Major works also got underway on the A92 Mill Lade Bridge in Glenrothes which will involve teams carrying out essential maintenance to the embankment surrounding the structure to ensure it remains safe for years to come.

Road safety continues to be a high priority and improvements have included final works on the A92 Balfarg Junction. An overnight closure was required to allow the installation of pedestrian crossing studs as well as new signage. The project followed on from major works that were carried out earlier this year.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North East Operating Company Representative said: "We have carried out a variety of projects across trunk roads in the North East of Scotland which will ensure the continued safe operation of the network. Despite challenging circumstances caused by adverse weather in the autumnal months, our teams remained focused on delivering the programme of works.

"In the new year we will remain dedicated as ever to maintain the integrity of the network and would like to thank the local communities and motorists in advance for their continued patience while we work to improve trunk roads across the North East of Scotland. We understand that some projects may cause disruption, however we will continue to plan schemes to cause minimal impact to motorists and local communities."
