BEAR Scotland Awarded New Network Management Contract

Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland has been awarded a new Network Management Contract for the North West Unit by Transport Scotland.

Following the appointment, BEAR has announced several vacancies within their Asset Management team.

BEAR is looking for new Inspectors to undertake a variety of essential safety and condition inspections of the NWU roads and assets.

For successful candidates new to road maintenance these roles provide an entry opportunity to a career in the industry through the attainment of wide-ranging experience and potential technical qualifications.

Inspectors carry out a range of duties including:

• Undertaking weekly daytime Safety Inspections and Safety Patrols to record defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public and, where safe to do so, carrying out minor repairs.

• Undertaking two weekly / monthly night-time Safety Inspections of illuminated assets and six-monthly Safety Inspections of reflective assets.

• Walked condition inspections to visually assess the condition of the assets to identify defects that will contribute to the establishment of programmes of routine maintenance tasks that do not require urgent attention.

• Walked conditions inspections to validate the inventory held in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System and to collect and update the inventory when changes are made.

As the role of an Inspector can involve interaction with the public, candidates will be subject to the basic disclosure process through Disclosure Scotland.

Although previous experience of road maintenance is preferable, it is not essential as training and mentoring will be provided. Candidates must however have good computer skills as all inspections are carried out using data capture devices that download to Transport Scotland's Asset Management Performance System. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel will also be useful.

The minimum working week will be 40 hours, but a flexible approach will be expected regarding overtime and start / finish times depending on the time of year. Overnight stays away from home might be required to complete some inspections.

A full approved driving licence is essential.
