Modern Apprenticeships give young people a head start in the workplace, according to Eva Anderson, 18, who is more than half way through her one-year Modern Apprenticeship training in Business Administration at innovative security sector specialist, Safer Security Group.
Greenock born and bred Eva, who attended Notre Dame High School in the town, is undertaking her Modern Apprenticeship as a Junior Administrator / Sales Administrator and is enjoying every minute of it.
She said: "I want to learn more about the sales part of my job and be more confident in talking to customers and getting to know them. I want to also be able to learn about what other people in my work do and what their main responsibilities are."
Would she recommend a Modern Apprenticeship to others? "Yes", she said, "because it's a great way to earn money while still learning and it gives you a feeling for the real world without being thrown in the deep end.
"If you go to college then it is very similar to school, which could be good for some people as they maybe don't want to leave school and are anxious about getting a job. A task oriented Modern Apprenticeship definitely helps with this.
"It's a lot different from school, I'm treated more as a grown up and given bigger responsibilities. My colleagues show me a lot of support and they help me when I need it."
Ryan Clark, founder and CEO of Safer Security Group, said: "Eva is our first Modern Apprentice and has had a real impact on the business in the short time she has been here.
"Over the rest of her one-year Modern Apprenticeship we want to see her fully conversant with how we work and how to go about looking after our customers. In time, I believe, she will become a highly valued member of the team, forging her own career, perhaps in sales, and making a substantial contribution to the success of our business."
Safer Security Group, which also operates as Safer Scotland, is accredited with the Security Industry Authority and is renowned for its rapid response capability. It has been employed on hundreds of flagship projects for construction, civil engineering, and corporate clients across the UK. It also provides security guards, key holding and other security services.
