ScottishPower Renewables Announces New CEO

Construction News Image
ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) has announced the appointment of Charlie Jordon as their new CEO, with responsibility for all the business's offshore, onshore, solar and battery projects across the UK and Ireland.

The announcement follows Lindsay McQuade's departure from the organisation and brings together SPR's offshore business – which Charlie led in the UK and Ireland – as well as the onshore portfolio led by Lindsay, under one single CEO.

Charlie began his career at ScottishPower twenty years ago, when renewables was still in its infancy, and worked as a Project Engineer at Cruach Mhor before going on to lead the construction of many onshore windfarms.

He was responsible for ScottishPower's first offshore wind project at West of Duddon Sands before taking on the role of Project Director for the flagship East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm – one of the biggest offshore windfarms in the world and the largest infrastructure investment in the Iberdrola portfolio at the time.

As Offshore Director – UK and Ireland, he oversaw ScottishPower's leading success in the ScotWind leasing round earlier this year as well as achieving Development Consent Orders for the two remaining East Anglia Hub projects.

In his new role, Charlie will be supported by Barry Carruthers, who has been appointed Managing Director – Onshore UK & Ireland and will lead the onshore management team. Barry joined ScottishPower in 2011 and has held various roles, including marine engineering, innovation, sustainability and quality. In his current role of Hydrogen Director, he successfully created a new business division focused on growing the production of green hydrogen as a way to support the decarbonisation of heavy transport and industry.

Keith Anderson, ScottishPower CEO, said: "Under Lindsay's leadership, we've grown our onshore project pipeline from 1GW to almost 7GW and created the UK's first hybrid energy parks by combining wind, solar and battery storage at onshore sites. Alongside this, our offshore business is  leading the way towards a new green industry, with an ambitious 10GW pipeline in UK waters – including projects that will be among the first floating windfarms in the world.

"This is a pivotal time for the renewables industry – and the country – as we work to get more homegrown green electricity on to the Grid. I look forward to working with Charlie, Barry and colleagues across SPR to speed up the race to Net Zero, grow our business at pace and create a better future, quicker."

Charlie Jordan, CEO, ScottishPower Renewables added: "Renewables is at the heart of a transformation that will touch on every aspect of our lives – how we heat our homes, how we get around, how we work – and I'm proud to be leading such a fantastic and committed team to help make that happen and realise the benefits for our people, our places and our planet. It's going to be really exciting!"
