Fife Council Proposes Future Use Of Cowsdenbeath Town House

Construction News Image
Fife Council is seeking views on the potential future development of the historic Cowsdenbeath Town House.

Following the closure of the building in 2016 the council has said that there is an "exciting opportunity to see this historic building brought back into use for the benefit of the community".

After positive feedback from the community drop-in event held in May, which allowed members of the public to view proposals of a Community Shop being established in the Town House, Coalfields Regeneration Trust are now seeking to purchase the building and progress this project. The Community Shop would provide a discounted food store, a hub for support, advice and training, and a community kitchen which creates a social space for residents to socialise and enjoy a low cost, good quality, meal.

Fife Council are looking for locals to share their views on the sale and future use of the building by taking part in an online consultation which will run 7 August 2022.

Cowdenbeath area committee Convener, Cllr Alex Campbell said: "These proposals could be a great opportunity to bring this historic building back into public use. Not only will it be a benefit to many people in the community but could also attract people back to the High Street. We want to hear what locals think and give them the chance to get involved and have their say on the future of the Town House."
