Construction News Image
Extension work has been completed at Glaitness Nursery in Orkney.

The project to extend and alter the nursery got underway in June last year and is now complete.

The works, completed by Orkney Builders (Contractors) Ltd, has seen an 365m2 extension to the front to provide additional nursery accommodation.

Councillor Gwenda Shearer is Chair of the Council's Education, Leisure and Housing Committee, said: "How brilliant to see this much needed project reach completion in time for the peedie ones attending childcare sessions over the summer to make the most of it. The extension looks fantastic - and it will serve the youngest folk at Glaitness well for many years."

Callum Murdoch, Orkney Builders (Contractors) Ltd Contracts Manager, said: "Orkney Builders are proud to have been involved in such an important and prestigious project for the local community. The ongoing collaboration with the Glaitness Nursery and Primary team has been key to ensuring our success in handing over the building ahead of the contractual deadlines and in time for the children on return from their summer holidays.

"We look forward to seeing the new spaces being utilised by the pupils and staff alike. It has been particularly rewarding to have directly involved the pupils in the project through site visits, practical STEM sessions in the classroom and displaying their safety posters around the site.

"We fully intend to maintain our strong links with the school through future classroom careers and STEM work and would welcome any invitations to carry out similar visits at other schools around Orkney."
